SEC DELEGATION ENGAGES AMBASSADOR ON INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND CAPITAL MARKET GROWTH

A delegation from the Securities and Exchange Commission Ghana (SEC), led by Deputy Director-General Mensah Thompson, paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, to discuss investment opportunities and strategies to deepen participation in Ghana’s capital markets.

The meeting was on the growing strength of Ghana’s economy, the performance of the Ghana Stock Exchange, and the role of the diaspora and foreign investors in supporting national development through strategic investments. During the discussions, Mr. Thompson highlighted the impressive performance of Ghana’s stock market, describing it as one of the strongest-performing exchanges on the continent. He explained that improving economic stability, declining inflationary pressures, and lower interest rates have created favorable conditions for investors seeking higher returns through the capital markets. “This is the best time to invest in Ghana, where we can now get stronger returns through the capital markets, stock markets, and other securities”, he added.

Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith reiterated his commitment to promoting Ghana as a destination for investment and economic collaboration. He spoke about the need to connect wealthy diaspora communities and foreign investors with opportunities back home to create jobs and reduce outward migration. He also requested the team to join all business engagements and forums organized by the Embassy in the United States of America.  The Ambassador explained that his office, together with agencies such as the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), is actively organizing investor presentations and forums aimed at showcasing Ghana’s incentives and investment climate.

He stressed that expanding investment opportunities and creating sustainable economic growth would help reduce the migration of young Ghanaians seeking opportunities abroad. The SEC delegation also addressed growing interest among Ghanaians abroad in investing in Ghanaian securities and government-backed initiatives. The head of International Relations at SEC, Dorothy Yeboah-Asiamah (Esq), emphasized the importance of using legitimate and regulated investment platforms to protect investors and strengthen confidence in the market. “We have licensed brokers and investment schemes that allow people abroad to safely invest in securities in Ghana, and we want more members of the diaspora to take advantage of these opportunities,” she said.

Other Members of the SEC team included Policy Research Unit, Peter McNamara Manager Broker Dealers and Advisers, Emmanuel Darko and Head of Fintech, Innovation, Richard Dusi and from the Board Secretariat, Marilyn Lamiokor-Mills.
